The Story Behind The Style:
We teach the Wah Lum Tam Tui Northern Praying Mantis style of Kung Fu. The Praying Mantis system was created by Master Wong Long over 300 years ago at Shangung province. Over the years, several branches of the Praying Mantis emerged, one being the Wah Lum Praying Mantis system, named after the Wah Lum Temple in China. A skillful martial artist studying there, Lee Kwan Shan later combined his family style "Tam Tui" (a style emphasizing strong leg movements) with the Wah Lum Praying Mantis to from a well rounded and effective system known as the Wah Lum Tam Tui Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu.
Kung Fu means "hard work." There are many different styles taken from the movements of animals, birds and insects. Training in Kung Fu consists of:
- Kung Fu Basic Exercises
- Hand Forms
- Weapon Forms
- Self-Defense Techniques
- History
- Philosophy
- Meditation
